There is no server behind this product and license checks happen offline, so there is no recurring cost to pass on to you. Charging monthly would mean building a license server just to be able to switch your copy off — which is the opposite of the point.

Encrypted with AES-GCM using a key derived from your master passphrase (PBKDF2-SHA256, 250,000 iterations). The passphrase is never stored anywhere. While unlocked, the decrypted values live only in memory and disappear when you close the browser. They are typed into a page only at the moment the login step runs. No local helper program, no local server, no cloud.
After payment you receive a license key. Paste it into the extension's Pro page and the features unlock. The key is a token signed with an ECDSA P-256 private key; the extension verifies the signature with a bundled public key.

Note: the Chrome Web Store itself has not supported paid extensions since February 2021, so every paid extension is purchased outside the store and unlocked with a license key. This one verifies that key offline, with no license server.
